A Journey of Growth 

John Matthews joined Tech Etch during a transitional phase in his career. “I was unemployed and searching for a place where I could grow. Tech Etch gave me that opportunity,” John recalls. Starting as a supervisor overseeing 40 team members, he quickly progressed to General Manager, now leading close to 50 employees. 

Through this growth, John has always remained focused on one goal: balancing the production side of operations with the people side. “My job is to ensure the product moves efficiently while helping every team member develop into the best version of themselves,” he shares.  

Championing Inclusion and Diversity 

One of John’s proudest achievements is leading Tech Etch’s equity and inclusion initiative. This project aimed to bring awareness to the importance of hiring diverse talent from all backgrounds. Through initiatives like the equity and inclusion project, John Matthews drives innovation at Tech Etch, ensuring diverse voices contribute to our success.

“Diversity helps us grow,” John states, underscoring how these efforts align with our mission to foster a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.  

Tackling Modern Challenges 

The manufacturing industry has faced its share of challenges in recent years, and Tech Etch is no exception. Supply chain disruptions and employee retention are hurdles we’ve worked hard to overcome. John’s approach focuses on adaptability and empowering employees through development opportunities, ensuring we turn these challenges into opportunities for growth. 

“We have to make sure that when we bring in good people, we can keep them and help them grow into even better employees,” John emphasizes. 

Employee Ownership: A Source of Pride 

At Tech Etch, our employee ownership model is a fundamental part of who we are. John is a strong advocate for this approach, believing it creates a deeper connection between employees and their work. 

“Ownership gives everyone the ability to understand that they are part of something bigger than themselves,” he explains. “When employees know their name is attached to every product that goes out the door, it fosters a sense of pride and accountability.”  

Advice for the Next Generation 

For those entering the workforce, John has one key piece of advice: “Be ready for change.” At Tech Etch, growth is a constant, and embracing change is essential for both personal and professional success.
